Tokyo Fashions

Most of the girls here are very fashion conscious and make great effort to be impeccably styled from head to toe. From their hair, to their makeup, to their clothes, shoes, bags, even down to their cell phone accessories…. Everything comes together for their look. It was really something to gawk at. Eventually my gawking turned to admiration. I mean, it takes dedication and commitment to look like this every day! (not to mention time and money) And for all their effort, I had to give it to them : They're smoking HOT! :)

What’s big here, amongst the females, are stockings. Tights with short shorts. Thigh highs and short skirts. Knee high and thigh high platform boots. Furry boots, Furry vests, furry rat tails hanging on your shorts. Some of the skirts are so short they would make your mom blush, and the hottest accessory for these girls seemed to be their legs. You’d ordinarily think that Asians would err on the conservative side, but that wasn’t the case in Tokyo. There's a reason young Japanese girls form the basis of many men's fantasies, why Manga/Henta have such a large fanbase, and I daresay some women here dress to encourage it. Schoolgirl fashions continue to be popular, and it was very normal to see a young female dressed as a scandalous schoolgirl on the subway, juxtaposed to black suited Japanese gentlemen all around her. It seemed as though every day was Halloween in this town, except that it wasn’t Halloween! It was quite common to see very attractive women strut out in the boldest outfits in broad daylight and it was the norm. I did notice that women would typically cover up on their top half, and few would wear low cut or arm-baring shirts. On the lower half however, the skimpier, the better.

The desired hair color here is a tangy shade of strawberry blond for the females. Long eyelash extensions rule..... makeup, wigs, barrettes, and colored contact lenses that make you appear more doll-like are all the rage.

We observed what appeared to be girls wearing costumes….Mary Bo Peep type of costumes, all around town… but soon realized we were spotting the latest fashion trend – “Lolita girls”, literally life sized dolls. These girls were donning fashions from another era: old Victorian hoop skirts with layered petticoats, lace-up corsets, barrettes in their long ringlet curls, bonnets, frilly ankle socks and bows -- bows, bows and more girly pink bows everywhere. The only thing missing from their getup was possibly, a little lamb and a staff. Albeit a strange curiosity to witness at first, it did look pretty cool once you got used to seeing it. Honestly, any girl that puts that much time and effort to rock that look, you have to give some props to!

Another hot trend spotted was the "french maid" girls all over Akihabara, Tokyo's Electronics district. There would be countless girls dolled up as one of the guys' all-time favorite dress up characters, and the ubiquitous french maid was seen all over Akihabara.

Here are some random pics that I surreptitiously took of the girls in Tokyo. It's seen as quite rude to bust out your camera and take a picture like a touris,t but I couldn't help myself... because where else do you see Halloween characters on a normal day out? The pics aren't exactly the best quality - I basically pointed the lens in their general direction and hoped for a shot in focus.
